Consultancy in Clinical Immunology combined with a clinical professorship i clinical immunology with special focus on immunologic phenotyping in personalized medicine

A position as consultant of clinical immunology at the Department of Clinical Immunology at Rigshospitalet is open for appointment as soon as possible.

The position is combined with a 5-year externally funded position as clinical professor in Clinical Immunology with special focus on immunologic phenotyping in personalized medicine at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen.

With this new position the Department of Clinical Immunology at Rigshospitalet wishes to strengthen the leadership in clinical research and teaching in collaboration with the University of Copenhagen.

It is a requirement that the applicant is accepted for appointment of both the professorship and the consultancy.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

Organisation
The Department of Clinical Immunology comprises diagnostic immunology within disorders of the haematopoietic system and the immune system (including malignant diseases, immune deficiencies, autoimmune diseases etc) which are being diagnosed and monitored; the blood bank together with all services within transfusion medicine; the cell and tissue banks and various activities within transplantation medicine together with many aspects of bio-banking, cohort administration, virology testing as well as foetal immune medicine.

Clinical functions and focus areas of the department
The Department of Clinical Immunology is part of Denmark’s leading university hospital for specialized medicine. The hospital needs further development and validation of immunological tools to improve the understanding of immune-pathologies contributing to inflammatory- and infectious complications in the increasing number of patients undergoing various immune modulating interventions. The professorship shall establish, validate and contribute to the clinical implementation of state-of-the-art technologies within immunological phenotyping, such as functional immunological assays, advanced biomarker panels, next generation flowcytometry etc. to promote the ongoing shift from empirical treatment to personalized medicine.

Research and teaching
With the new position as consultant in clinical immunology and clinical professor in clinical immunology with special focus on immunologic phenotyping in personalized medicine the Department of Clinical Immunology wishes to strengthen leadership in clinical research and teaching within personalized medicine.

Qualifications
The applicants must be board-certified specialists in clinical immunology. They are expected to have a strong teaching portfolio in personalized medicine, a contemporary clinical insight into complex critical illness and a good clinical understanding of personalized medicine. Emphasis will be placed on documented research in acquired immune dysfunction. The applicants must document good collaboration skills, experience in integrating novel immunological phenotyping methods into clinical practice as well as competences and experience in quality management.

Conditions
Only applicants for the position as clinical professor of clinical immunology at University of Copenhagen can apply for this position. Appointment is conditioned by the fact that the applicant applies for and obtains both positions.

Salary and conditions of employment as consultant are as agreed between the Danish Regions and the Danish Association of Medical Specialists and between the Capital Region/Region Zealand and University of Copenhagen.

As clinical professor at least 50 % of the working time will be allocated to academic tasks (e.g. research, teaching, evaluation tasks and communication with the public) in agreement with the Head of Department of Department of Clinical Medicine at the University of Copenhagen. The remaining time will be allocated for clinical work in agreement with the head of Department for Clinical Immunology. The clinical professor will receive secretarial or technical support equivalent to 50 % of a full-time secretary position from the Department of Clinical Immunology. Additional support and details on the working conditions must be negotiated with the head of the Department of Clinical Immunology, Rigshospitalet.

ABOUT CENTRE OF DIAGNOSTIC INVESTIGATIONS
The Centre of Diagnostic Investigation comprises a collection of highly specialized departments: Clinical biochemistry, clinical immunology, clinical microbiology, clinical genetics, pathology, center of genomic medicine, diagnostic radiology, clinical physiology/nuclearmedicine and PET, clinical genetics.

The center has a staff of 1.600 and an annual turnover of 1 billion kroner. The center produces annually 10 mill. laboratory analyses and performs 650.000 image diagnostics based on 1 mill. contacts with patients and donors.

The core task is high-level research, strong educational environments, customized diagnostics and patient treatment. 33 professors and other researchers provides annually more than 500 scientific articles in international reputable journals.
