Consultancy in Orthopaedic Surgery combined with a clinical professorship in Orthopaedic Surgery with special focus on limb reconstruction
A clinical position as consultant of orthopaedics at the Department of Orthopaedics at Rigshospitalet-Blegdamsvej is open for appointment as soon as possible.
The position is combined with a 10-year externally funded position as clinical professor of Orthopaedic Surgery with special focus on limb reconstruction at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen.
With this new position, the Department of Orthopaedics at Rigshospitalet-Blegdamsvej wishes to strengthen the leadership in clinical research and teaching in collaboration with the University of Copenhagen.
It is a requirement that the applicant is accepted for appointments of both the professorship and the consultancy.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
Organisation
The Department of Orthopaedics at Rigshospitalet-Blegdamsvej consists of 32 beds for adult patients including six semi-intensive beds for elective and trauma patients, in addition to 12 pediatric beds plus nine orthopaedic operating rooms including one operating room for day surgery. The surgical activity amounts to 4.000 procedures per year.
This activity is combined with 25.000 outpatients visits yearly including pediatric outpatient visits. We are 175 employees including 49 MDs.
Clinical functions and focus areas of the department
Clinically, the Department of Orthopaedics at Rigshospitalet-Blegdamsvej covers highly specialised orthopaedic surgery within the subspecialities of traumatology, arthroplasty, orthopaedic oncology, spine surgery, pediatric orthopaedics, and hand surgery.
The philosophy of the department is to maintain a coherent unit delivering high-quality orthopaedic treatment in the various subspecialities. Consequently, the entire department convene for morning conference every day of the week and have daily interdisciplinary teaching sessions in relation to the morning conferences.
The department has a close collaboration with other departments at the hospital, especially with the Department of Anesthesiology and the Department of Plastic Surgery, since the hospital has the largest trauma center in the country. The ambition for the clinical part of the professorship is to strengthen the orthopaedic reconstructive surgery which is of special relevance to the orthopaedic multitrauma patients. This also includes pediatric orthopaedic patients requiring limb reconstruction as well as orthopaedic infection and tumor surgery.
Research and teaching
The department is active in research with 3 affiliated professorships in tumor surgery, arthroplasty, and spine surgery and currently 9-10 PhD positions. The department published more than 40 peer-reviewed international scientific journal articles in 2023.
With this new position as a consultant and a professorship in limb reconstruction the Department of Orthopaedics at Rigshospitalet-Blegdamsvej wishes to strengthen leadership as well as clinical research and teaching primarily within limb reconstruction.
The ambition for the professorship is to support and stimulate research in limb reconstruction in close collaboration with other orthopaedic subspecialities and well as other specialties at the hospital.
The department’s patient volume is well suited for clinical studies in highly specialised orthopaedic surgery. Furthermore, the department emphasizes collaboration with relevant partners at the regional as well as national and international level.
Qualifications
Applicants must be board-certified specialist in Orthopaedic Surgery.
Conditions
In order to be considered, the applicant must send an application to both the faculty (the professorship) and to the hospital (the consultancy) cf. the simultaneously advertised position of the professorship.
Appointment is conditioned by the fact that the applicant obtains both positions. This also applies to the applicants who are already employed as consultants at Rigshospitalet-Blegdamsvej.
Salary and conditions of employment as consultant are as agreed between the Danish Regions and the Danish Association of Medical Specialists and between the Capital Region/Region Zealand and University of Copenhagen.
As clinical professor at least 50 % of the working time will be allocated to academic tasks (e.g. research, teaching, evaluation tasks and communication with the public) in agreement with the Head of Department of Clinical Medicine at the University of Copenhagen. The remaining time will be allocated for clinical work in agreement with the head of Department of Orthopaedics at Rigshospitalet-Blegdamsvej. The clinical professor will receive secretarial or technical support equivalent to 50 % of a full-time secretary position from the Department of Orthopedics at Rigshospitalet-Blegdamsvej. Additional support and details on the working conditions must be negotiated with the head of the Department of Orthopaedics at Rigshospitalet-Blegdamsvej.
