Postdoc in neuroendocrine histology focusing on mapping glucagon receptor expression
Are you passionate about the brain and histological research methods? Do you want to make a meaningful contribution to translational science in metabolism and metabolic diseases?
We are looking for a motivated postdoc to join Nicolai J. Wewer Albrechtsen’s research group at the Department of Clinical Biochemistry, Bispebjerg Hospital. We are currently a team of 3 PhD students, 2 research assistants, 4 postdocs, 1 chemist, 3 bioanalytical technicians, 3 students. This is a 1-year position starting April 1, 2025 (or as agreed), with the potential for extension for two years.
We research the hormone glucagon, which is essential for our metabolism. Our latest findings suggest that glucagon may also play a role in the development of diseases such as diabetes and dementia. In this project, you will investigate glucagon’s potential role in brain metabolism and function by mapping the localization of its receptor in brain tissue from mice and humans.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and conduct studies to map glucagon receptor expression in mice and human brain tissue.
- Apply and optimize histological techniques, including autofluorescent ligands, in situ hybridization, and immunohistochemistry.
- Independently drive research projects and contribute to team collaborations.
- Engage in cross-disciplinary collaborations within the department and with external partners.
What We Offer
- A chance to contribute to exciting research within metabolism and metabolic diseases.
- A dynamic, interdisciplinary team of physicians, students, bioanalysts, and researchers.
- Opportunities for project management and supervision of technical staff and students.
- Participation in scientific meetings and collaborative studies.
What We Expect
- A relevant master’s and PhD degree
- Hands-on experience with the following techniques:
- Sectioning (cryosectioning, paraffin embedding), staining, and slide preparation
- Fluorescent labeling and imaging
- In situ hybridization (RNAscope)
- Immunohistochemistry
- Confocal and fluorescence microscopy
- Software for image analysis
- Additional experience with the following is an advantage:
- Working with mice, perfusion fixation, and tissue collection
- Strong communication skills
Part of the studies will be performed in collaboration with https://cfim.ku.dk/
