Consultancy in Clinical Microbiology combined with a clinical professorship in Gastroenterology and Hepatology, Infectious diseases or Clinical Microbiology with special focus on microbiome-based clinical intervention studies
A clinical position as consultant of Clinical Microbiology at the Department of Clinical Microbiology at Amager-Hvidovre Hospital is open for appointment from as soon as possible.
The position is combined with a 5-year externally funded position as clinical professor of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, Infectious Diseases or Clinical Microbiology with special focus on microbiome-based clinical intervention studies at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen.
With this new position the Department of Clinical Microbiology, Amager-Hvidovre Hospital wishes to strengthen the leadership in clinical research and teaching in collaboration with the University of Copenhagen.
It is a requirement that the applicant is accepted for appointment of both the professorship and the consultancy.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
Department of Clinical Microbiology, Amager-Hvidovre Hospital is one of the largest departments of clinical microbiology in Denmark analysing more than 1.5 mio. samples per year. It provides microbiological and infection control services for 6 hospitals and 700 General Practitioners/specialist situated in the Capital Region of Denmark and hosts The Regional Centre for MRSA and the Copenhagen Centre for Clinical Microbiome Studies. The staff of the department comprises of 22 Medical Doctors (13 specialists in clinical microbiology and 1 specialist in medical gastroenterology), 9 molecular biologists/bioinformatics, 4 infection control nurses, 90 laboratory technicians, and 9 secretaries. The department has regional function in monitoring HIV, HBV, HCV for viral load, subtyping and resistance. Important clinical focus areas of the department have for years been laboratory automation, antibiotic resistance, development of in-house molecular diagnostic tests and Next Generation Sequencing (NGS), however, the department covers all major areas in clinical microbiology.
All groups of employees participate in the research of the department and cooperate with partners in Denmark and abroad. The department hosts at present 1 professor, 2 associated professors and 7 PhD students and has a yearly production of more than 60 scientific publications. The research topics reflect widely the clinical focus area of the department including NGS (subtyping and resistance of MRSA, VRE and MDE; microbiome), bacteremia and urinary tract infections, viral infections including HCV, and sexual transmitted infections.
Research and teaching
With the new position as consultant in the Department of Clinical Microbiology, Amager-Hvidovre Hospital and clinical professor of Clinical Microbiology, the Department of Clinical Microbiology, Amager-Hvidovre Hospital wishes to strengthen leadership in clinical research and teaching.
Qualifications
Applicants must be board-certified specialists in Clinical Microbiology.
Conditions
In order to be considered, the applicant must send an application to both the Faculty (the professorship) and to the hospital (the consultancy) cf. the simultaneously advertised position of the professorship. Appointment is conditioned by the fact that the applicant obtains both positions. This also applies to the applicants who are already employed as consultants at Amager-Hvidovre Hospital.
Salary and conditions of employment as consultant are as agreed between the Danish Regions and the Danish Association of Medical Specialists and between the Capital Region/Region Zealand and the University of Copenhagen.
As clinical professor at least 50 % of the working time will be allocated to academic tasks (e.g. research, teaching, evaluation tasks and communication with the public) in agreement with the Head of Department of Clinical Medicine at the University of Copenhagen. The remaining time will be allocated for clinical work in agreement with the head of the Department of Clinical Microbiology, Amager-Hvidovre Hospital. The clinical professor will receive secretarial or technical support equivalent to 50 % of a full-time secretary position from the Department of Clinical Microbiology, Amager-Hvidovre. Additional support and details on the working conditions must be negotiated with the head of the department at the Department of Clinical Microbiology, Amager-Hvidovre Hospital.
